Today President Obama, in an executive order, set up an Interagency Council on Climate Preparedness and Resilience, and, to inform federal efforts, a State, Local, and Tribal Leaders Task Force on Climate Preparedness and Resilience. The task force of state and local officials will provide ideas for removing barriers to resilient investments, modernizing Federal grant and loan programs to better support local efforts, and developing the information and tools they need to prepare. Here is a White House factsheet.
From Tom Leyden, CEO of Solar Grid Storage:
“We applaud President Obama for creating an Interagency Council on Climate Preparedness and Resilience and a Task Force on Climate Preparedness and Resilience. People are increasingly aware of the vulnerability of our electrical grid, especially as we mark the first anniversary of Superstorm Sandy. Pairing solar and storage will be key to the future for our electrical grid. Combining clean and renewable solar power with energy storage enables a series of new benefits including emergency backup power, peak demand reduction and power balancing on the grid. Simply put, solar plus storage will ensure a more stable, resilient and smarter grid.”
Solar Grid Storage's Konterra microgrid and GridSTAR Center projects are prime examples of the resiliency offered by the innovative combination of solar + energy storage. For more, check out our PowerFactor Technology.
